When I decided to stop writing weeknotes, I considered starting a monthly newsletter to fill that gap. A fellow blogger I follow suggested I should consider “going smaller” instead. I liked that idea a lot, but wondered at first if it might be a little too much like microblogging … which I already do on Mastodon.
Then I dredged something up from the depths of my memories of the early web: microblogging existed long before Mastodon did. It was called tumblelogging back in the day (and yes, that’s where the name “Tumblr” came from).
When you think about it, personal websites are actually the perfect microblogging platform. No character counts! Full control over formatting! Deleted posts stay deleted – imagine that! 😱
The only rule I’m going to impose upon myself here is to (try to) keep each entry under 150 words; anything longer than that should really be a blog post.
