Site Updates
- I’m starting to have serious doubts about these weekly updates of mine, and am thinking I might not continue on with them…
- I like the fact that weeknotes force me to write and update my site every week, but they’re starting to feel like a chore, and I don’t want anything related to this site to feel like a chore.
- As an alternative to weeknotes, I like the thought of writing a monthly newsletter instead; there’d be less repetition, and I could just focus in on stuff that was truly noteworthy about the preceding month. It would also give me more time to write longer blog posts!
- If I do indeed end up writing a monthly newsletter, I wouldn’t send it out to folks via email; I have no interest in collecting email addresses, as that is a privacy nightmare in this day and age. At most, I might consider creating an RSS feed for it. We’ll see!
TV Shows and Movies I Watched
- It was our wedding anniversary this week, so my husband and I decided to go out and see a film prior to our dinner date. We settled on The Social Reckoning, as there wasn’t anything else showing that we wanted to see (besides Resident Evil, but we’ll wait until that one is available to rent – my husband doesn’t do scary movies in theatres, heh).
- The Social Reckoning had some good moments, but was mostly just okay and nowhere near as good as The Social Network.
- A strong cast and an interesting story that was unfortunately brought down by Aaron Sorkin being a little too, well, Aaron Sorkin about the whole thing. Also, I know the stats cited in the film were supposed to shock us, but I’ve already read so much about the ills of Facebook over the last several years that I almost kind of felt like I wasn’t the target audience for this film. I expect the film would be impactful to someone who hasn’t yet abandoned all major social media platforms, like I have.
- I was much more interested in the interview Frances Haugen did with Carole Cadwalladr in The Nerve, which is well worth a read. “Mark has been allowed to continue in the form he was in when he was 20, for his entire adult life, and the movie depicts how sad this is.”
- The Social Reckoning had some good moments, but was mostly just okay and nowhere near as good as The Social Network.
- We finished watching Widow’s Bay on Friday. Such a creepy, quirky little show! I just read that it has been greenlit for a second season, which makes me so happy.
- If you haven’t seen it yet and need a good supernatural story to binge ahead of Halloween, absolutely check it out.
- Finishing off Widow’s Bay meant we could get back to Slow Horses this week. This latest season has been a blast so far! We finished episode three on Friday, and will move on to episode four tonight.
- Much like DivergentRays, I almost wish we’d waited until the entire season was out before we started watching it, as waiting for each new episode to hit Apple TV is torture.
Books I Read
- I finally finished reading Mick Herron’s Real Tigers this morning – largely because I was too embarrassed to post yet another dull list of excuses explaining why I hadn’t gotten through it this week.
- I enjoyed it on the whole, though as I’ve indicated in previous weeknotes, I found it less enjoyable than the first two novels in the Slough House series. Just felt as though it dragged a little during the action sequences.
- Now that that’s out of the way, I’ve decided which Stephen King I’ll be reading for spooky season: Misery. I love the film (might rewatch it on Halloween, as I haven’t seen it in years), but somehow never read the novel.
Games I Played
- Nibbled away a little more at The Witcher 3: Remastered this week.
- It’s still looking gorgeous on my PS5 Pro for the most part (minus some underwater lighting glitches), but all the things that annoyed me about the game the various times I’ve played it in the past are still annoying me now.
- Combat is still unsatisfying, the crafting system is still needlessly bloated, there are still way too many distracting points of interest on the map, Roach still handles like an old station wagon carving through several feet of snow…
- I’m going to keep giving it a chance, but not sure I’ll be doing so for much longer. My original plan was to just focus on the main story and do fewer side quests (those always bogged me down and bored me in the past), but I’m unfortunately finding that you don’t get enough experience points via the main questline and basically have to do side quests. Ugh…

And that does it for this week. Since this may very well be my last weeknote … I hope if any of you have been enjoying these thus far, you’ll stick around for the monthly updates that will most likely replace them! Thanks for reading and for indulging me during this experiment with weekly writing.
